Initial Thoughts

This is the third spirit in my October pairing series I’m pretty excited to review it because I have a feeling most people would just pass by this on the store shelves. I originally bought this Prichard’s Peach Mango Rum for my fiance. She likes liquor that is sweeter that she can mix. When we went to the Prichard’s tasting she just loved the flavor of this rum, so we went ahead and picked up a bottle. I decided not to cut this rum with water or put it on ice. It’s only 70 proof and I didn’t want to dilute it anymore. That’s why this review is about half the length of others.

It’s a beautiful night outside so I wanted to sit and relax. I figured what better way than with a nice glass of something sweet. As soon as I sat down, I was looking up at the sky and I saw a shooting star. Ok enough star gazing, lets get into it!

 Looks

This Prichard’s Peach Mango Rum has an identical look to the Fine Rum that I reviewed earlier. Exact same bottle, similar packaging, the only difference is the label and what’s inside. The light amber color tells me this should be a less intense rum. At the bottle of the label there is remark that says “Caramel Added”. I believe they added that to help darken the color of this very light rum.

Reviewed Neat

As I said above, I just review this Prichard’s Peach Mango Rum neat because it’s already at a low 70 proof. Swirling around the glass I get a nice look into the light amber color. The legs that run down the side of the glass nice and slow moving. Not quite like a bourbon, but still adequate for me.

Nose

While swirling I nose the glass to try and pick up on the aroma. Holy smokes, can I smell some peaches! I’m instantly taken away back to the days of summer where I’m drinking Peach Daiquiris from the Margaritaville blender! I thought those had a strong peach smell to them. Trust me, I’m not a huge fan of peaches, you won’t find me eating them raw, maybe out of a can though. I’m not turned off by the aroma, but it is quite overwhelming if you’re not ready for it. In fact as I was sitting here nosing it, I couldn’t help but think of a nice warm peach cobbler being pulled from the oven. Like I said, I’m not a huge peach fan, but I’m a fan of desserts!

Palate

To stay inline with the peach cobbler idea. Just a quick sidetrack, why is the dessert called a cobbler? Isn’t a cobbler someone that fixes shoes? If someone has the answer to that, please leave a comment below I’d love to hear about it. Anyway, this rum has a great flavor profile, when it hit my palate. Very sugary and syrupy. It was nice and smooth and just coated my tongue and left a nice buttery flavor sitting on it. So smooth and creamy, all I could think about was peach cobbler. So now I’m going to have to find someone that can make a peach cobbler, maybe put this rum in the syrup of it! I’m not gonna lie, the more I drank of this, the more I liked it.

Finish

This is one of the best finishes that I’ve had with a rum. This Prichard’s Peach Mango Rum just lingers around on my tongue and coats my throat. Not quite like chloraseptic or anything, but it’s a nice buttery coating. The finish is very long and sweet and it makes my taste buds pop almost as if it was carbonated. There’s a nice easy burn on the way down, nothing close to a bourbon burn, but still just enough to warm you up. If there is one thing to be said about this rum, it’s smooth on the finish.

Conclusion:

This rum is great change of a pace from all the strong bourbon and whiskey that I usually drink. It’s on the sweeter side and is a great companion for a cigar. Especially a cigar on the spicier side. Overall I enjoyed this rum, it can be overwhelming if you drink it alone for too long. I think you have to bring something else into the mix to help take on some of the sweetness, but it’s great nonetheless. Prichard’s website has some great drink ideas for this rum as well.
